Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 2024

This document is a draft and should be reviewed by legal counsel before use.

Our Commitment to Your Privacy

At Ohana, we believe your family's memories are sacred. They belong to you—not to us, not to advertisers, and certainly not to AI training datasets. This privacy policy explains how we protect your data and respect your privacy.

Information We Collect

We collect only what's necessary to provide our service:

  • Account Information: Your email address for authentication and account recovery.
  • Your Content: Photos, voice recordings, and any text or metadata you add to your memories.
  • Usage Data: Basic analytics to improve our service, such as which features are used most often. This data is anonymized and never linked to your personal content.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to:

  • Provide and maintain the Ohana service
  • Authenticate your account and keep it secure
  • Send important service updates (you can opt out of non-essential communications)
  • Improve our service based on anonymized usage patterns

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing and improving our service.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on Cloudflare's infrastructure, which provides enterprise-grade security and global reliability. We implement:

  • Encryption at Rest: All your photos and recordings are encrypted using AES-256-GCM, an industry-standard encryption algorithm. Cloudflare manages the encryption keys through their secure key management systems.
  • Encryption in Transit: All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS, ensuring your content is protected as it moves between your device and our servers.
  • Access Controls: Only you and family members you explicitly invite can access your content through authenticated sessions.
  • Regular Security Audits: We continuously monitor and improve our security practices.

No AI Training—Ever

We will never use your photos, recordings, or any personal data to train artificial intelligence models.

This isn't just a policy—it's a promise. Your memories are not a commodity. They exist to preserve your family's legacy, not to feed machine learning algorithms. This commitment is permanent and non-negotiable.

Your Rights & Control

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: View all the data we have about you at any time.
  • Export: Download all your photos, recordings, and data in standard formats.
  • Delete: Request deletion of your account and all associated data. When you delete, we delete—no backups retained, no exceptions.
  • Correct: Update or correct any information about your account.

Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as your account is active. If you choose to delete your account:

  • All your photos and recordings are permanently deleted within 30 days
  • Account information is removed from our systems
  • We do not keep backup copies after deletion

Third-Party Services

We use minimal third-party services, all chosen for their strong privacy practices:

  • Cloudflare: Cloud infrastructure and content delivery
  • Email Service: For authentication emails and service notifications

We do not share your personal content with any third parties. The services above only process the minimum data necessary for their function.

Children's Privacy

Ohana is designed for families, which may include content about children. We take extra care to protect this sensitive information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you via email before the changes take effect. Minor clarifications may be made without notice, but the substance of our privacy commitments will not change.
